2. What version of Kofax Express do I need to use with the CaptureBites products?

All current CaptureBites work with the latest version of Kofax Express which you can download here. If you want to use a CaptureBites product with an older version of Kofax Express, please contact us.

3. Can I use a CaptureBites connector with more than one license of Kofax Express?

Each CaptureBites connector license is associated with a single license of Kofax Express. If you want to use a CaptureBites connector with more than one license of Kofax Express you need to acquire additional licenses.

4. Where can I find the CaptureBites pricelist?

Please request a quotation.

5. During export I get the error: Cannot find file

C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Temp\CaptureBites\Express\ExportConnectors\Connector_Name\ some_number.pdf.

What’s wrong?

This error is often related with a virus scanner installed on the system. The virus scanner checks real time all files including temp files produced by Kofax and CaptureBites and locks them, causing this error.

Solution 1: Disable the virus scanner

Solution 2: Leave the virus scanner enabled, but exclude below Kofax Express and CaptureBites system folders. So they are not checked (and not locked) by the virus scanner:

  1. C:\ProgramData\Kofax
  2. C:\ProgramData\CaptureBites
  3. C:\Users\[User_Name]\AppData\Local\Temp\CaptureBites

Every virus scanner has its own way of excluding folders. The setting is typically referred to as “Exceptions” or “Exclusions” and is most likely located in the advanced settings of the virus scanner.

Below are examples of where exceptions are defined in some popular virus scanners. Of course, settings may be slightly different between versions.

AVG: Options / Advanced Settings / Exceptions
McAfee: VirusScan Console / Task menu / On Access Scan Properties / Detection tab / Exclusions
Norton Antivirus: Settings / Scans and Risks tab / Scroll Down… / Items to Exclude from Scans / Configure

7. How to migrate Kofax Express and CaptureBites modules from one PC to another.

Note 1: For Windows Server 2003, follow the same instructions as for Windows XP. For Windows Server 2008 or higher, follow the Windows 7 or higher instructions.

Note 2: If you migrate from the old Kofax Express 3.0 to the latest Kofax Express 3.1 version, you first need to upgrade the old system. Just install Kofax Express 3.1 over version 3.0. This will convert your jobs to Kofax Express 3.1 jobs. After that, start the migration process below.

A) Find your Kofax Express License info and deactivate the license on the old PC

  1. Make note of all the license details of Kofax Express on the old station. See page 4 in this Kofax Express Application Note for more information how to find the license information.
  2. De-activate the license on the old PC by pressing Deactivate in the Help tab.

  1. Install the ISIS driver of your scanner (see your scanner’s instructions). Most scanner suppliers provide the ISIS driver as a download on their web site. If you use FolderScan and don’t use a scanner, you can skip this step.  To find the driver simply google “Your Scanner Model” ISIS driver and you should be able to find the download link.
  2. Download and install Kofax Express 3.1 from here: https://www.kofax.com/contact/kofax-express-trial (the trial is the same as the production version) and install it on the new station. Install it in standalone mode or server mode by following instructions in the Kofax Express 3.1 Installation Guide.
  3. After you have installed Kofax Express. We also recommend to install the latest Kofax Express Fix Pack, which you can find here.

10. I tried to activate my product but get the error: “This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms”.

This error is very unusual and is caused by a Windows setting related to FIPS cryptographic algorithms verification. You need to disable the verification by changing following entry in the windows registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy

Set it to 0.

Restart Windows after changing the setting and the activation of the CaptureBites product will correctly work.

11. Where can I find the trial version of Kofax Express and how do I install it?

STEP 1: Download and install Kofax Express

The Kofax Express trial version can be downloaded from here:

https://www.kofax.com/contact/kofax-express-trial

The download is a zip file called install-kofax-express.zip of about 1.4 GB. Unzip the file and run Kofax Express Standalone Setup from the unzipped installer and follow simple installation inctructions.

STEP 2: Download and install the latest Kofax Express Fix Pack

After you have installed Kofax Express, install the latest fix pack to get the latest version and support for all the latest scanners from here:

https://services.kofax.com/support/products/express/3.1/downloads.php

At the end of that page you’ll find the Fix Pack section. Press the Download button. The downloaded file will be called something like kofaxexpress-3.1.0.41.zip. Unzip the fix pack file and run the installer.

STEP 3: Download and install your scanner’s ISIS driver.

The only thing left to be done, is installing your scanner driver. You need the ISIS scannner driver, not the TWAIN driver. Easiest is to just type in Google something like for example Fujitsu fi-7260 ISIS driver to get to the download page.

For example the ISIS driver for the Fujitsu 71xx and 72xx series is located here:

https://www.fujitsu.com/global/support/products/computing/peripheral/scanners/fi/software/isis-fi-7×80.html

STEP 4: Connect and test your scanner with Kofax Express

Once the scanner driver is installed, test the scanner by doing the following:

  1. Connect your scanner with the USB cable
  2. Switch on the scanner
  3. Start Kofax Express
  4. Open the Scan to Desktop job
  5. Select the Scan Settings tab and press the Select Scanner button.
  6. Select your scanner from the list and press OK
  7. Place some documents in the feeder and press Scan All to test your scanner.

To get up and running quickly with Kofax Express, we recommend to familiarize yourself with the product by watching the short tutorials here.
