The Kofax Express export error:

“Cannot find file “C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Temp\CaptureBites\Express\ExportConnectors\Connector_Name\some_number.pdf”

is related with a virus scanner installed on the system. The virus scanner checks real time all files including temp files produced by Kofax and CaptureBites and locks them, causing this error.

Solution 1: Disable the virus scanner

Solution 2: Leave the virus scanner enabled, but exclude below Kofax Express and CaptureBites system folders. So they are not checked (and not locked) by the virus scanner:

  1. C:\ProgramData\Kofax
  2. C:\ProgramData\CaptureBites
  3. C:\Users\[User_Name]\AppData\Local\Temp\CaptureBites
  4. C:\CaptureBites\Express
  5. C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax      (on 64 bit systems)
  6. C:\Program Files\Kofax      (on 32 bit systems)

Every virus scanner has its own way of excluding folders. The setting is typically referred to as “Exceptions” or “Exclusions” and is most likely located in the advanced settings of the virus scanner.

Below are examples of where exceptions are defined in some popular virus scanners. Of course, settings may be slightly different between versions.

AVG: Options / Advanced Settings / Exceptions
McAfee: VirusScan Console / Task menu / On Access Scan Properties / Detection tab / Exclusions
Norton Antivirus: Settings / Scans and Risks tab / Scroll Down… / Items to Exclude from Scans / Configure
