The CaptureBites Bar Code  Generator is designed to be used in combination with document scanning applications to print QR Code labels and separator sheets.

For an overview of the Bar Code Generator’s functionality, please check out the product page here.

Download and run the software installer from here.

If your PC’s security settings don’t allow to download or run the installer, please contact us and we will email a link to a zipped version of the installer.

Without an activation code, you can configure all settings and use the preview function to preview the bar code label but you cannot print out the bar codes.

You can request a trial license or contact us to receive pricing or purchase a license. After submitting the form, you’ll receive an activation code.

You can find your Computer ID by pressing the “License…” button in the main Bar Code Generator window.

Next, copy the Computer ID and include it in the request form or e-mail.

If you want to try out the CaptureBites Bar Code Generator in full production mode for a short period of time, we can generate a trial code. Just send us a request for a trial activation code.

Don’t forget to include your Computer id. You can easily locate it as explained in the previous section.

After you have received  your activation code, press the License… button in the main Bar Code Generator window and paste your activation code in the activation code field.

Profile: A profile stores all the settings, such as the Folder, Prefix, Range, Layout, Target Printer, etc.  so you can easily recall a configuration with a single click. Use the New… button to create new profiles and press Rename… to rename an existing profile.

Print profile name as title: When you print out a bar code label or separator sheet, you can print the profile name on top of each page. You can set this differently for Folder & file name bar codes and Fixed value bar codes.

Folder & File name mode: This mode allows you to save a destination path and a sequential file name in the QR code. When you place such bar code on your document, it will contain its own destination path. The two elements, folder and file name (more information about the file name in 6 and 7) are separated with a semi colon so they are considered as two separate elements in the QR Code. For example, Kofax Express interprets semi colon delimited values automatically as multiple bar codes even if the values are contained in a single bar code.

Folder: You can copy and paste a path in the Folder field. You can also leave the Folder field empty in case you just want to print out sequential values.

Browse: You can also browse to a folder of choice. The software supports both drive letter and UNC paths. As previously mentioned, the Folder field can be left empty in case you just want to produce a series of sequential QR Code labels.

Prefix: Prefix your sequential file name with whatever you type in this box. With the values in the sample setup on the right, the bar code and content would look like this.

Thanks to the QR Code label, containing both destination path and unique file name, every document actually contains its own destination. You can simply scan the invoice on a device of choice and it can be processed by a central system recognizing the QR Code and placing it in the location and with the name specified. For example, you can easily auto-fill the path and file name embedded in the QR code in Kofax Express index fields and use them in an export connector of choice to define your path and file name.

Range: Enter the number from which you want to start the sequential counter. The last number is automatically calculated based on the number of sheets, duplicate labels and number of labels defined in the label layout.

Sheets: Enter the number of bar code label sheets or separators you’d like to print out.

Duplicates: You can also specify the number of times you want to repeat each label.

The generator is designed to print out label sheets. But it can also be used to print single bar code separators as well by simply defining a label sheet with only one label. The product comes with a predefined layout for that purpose.

Based on the selected number of label sheets, the first number in the sequence and the number of labels on a sheet it calculates the range of sequential numbers for you.

Single: In single mode, you can print the bar code directly on the original document. Just enter the sequential number you want to print, select the position where you want to place the bar code on your document, put the original in the printer’s feed tray and press Print.

Location: You can choose between 6 possible locations where to print the bar code on your original.

Fixed value: Use the “Fixed value” mode, if you just want to print out sheets with bar codes with a fixed value to use as a separator. In this mode, the QR code acts as a compact and reliable patch code.

Value: Enter the actual fixed value that will be encoded in the QR code here.

Edit fixed value list: To consistently use the same values, you can maintain a list of possible fixed values by pressing Edit… next to the “Fixed value” list.

Sheets: Enter the number of fixed value bar code label sheets you’d like to print out.

Print file name under bar code: If you want to make maximum use of the label for the QR Code, you can disable the human readable text under the QR Code.

Left: QR Code with readable text,

Right: QR Code without text.

Notice how the QR Code uses the additional space when the human readable text is suppressed.

Layout: You can define any label layout. The Bar Code Generator comes pre-configured with a number of popular layouts in both A4 and Letter size as well as a single bar code per sheet layouts to print separator sheets.

Layout Setup: For details about label layouts, please read more in the Layout Setup tab on this page.

Printer: Select any windows printer, as the destination printer. You don’t need a special printer, any printer will do. You can also print to PDF for testing or for deferred printing. When you select PDF, the software will automatically suggest a meaningful name such as: Incoming Invoices INV-001 ~ INV-195.pdf.

Delete profile: Press Delete to remove the selected profile.

Reset: Press Reset to restore the last saved settings of the profile.

License: Press the License button to find your computer id or enter your activation code. For details about licensing, read more in the Installation & Activation tab.

Preview & “Bar code too Small” warning: The preview shows the label in real size. It displays the correct bar code and layout based on the first value in the selected range or the fixed value in Fixed value mode.

Based on tests with a number of scan devices such as multi functional devices or dedicated scanners, we noticed an extremely reliable read rate when the corner square of the QR code is more or equal than 3mm² or 0.12 in². With these specifications you should never experience a bar code reading failure when scanning in 300 DPI. To assure that you are generating QR Codes according to these specifications, we display a warning when the QR Code’s size is too small for the amount of data:

Some devices still read very reliable with higher densities as well, so you can still print these very high density QR Codes and ignore the warning. The warning will only come up once until you change settings again.

Print: Press Print to print out the QR Code label or separator  sheets with the selected printer. You can also print to PDF. You can use any windows supported printer. For label printing, we recommend the use of a laser printer because an ink jet printer’s ink may smear if you rub over the label when applying it on a document.

Save: Save changes of the selected profile.

Close: Close the program. If any settings are unsaved in the selected profile, the software will issue a warning.

The CaptureBites Bar Code Generator comes with a range of predefined A4 and Letter size layouts that best suit QR code label printing.

Depending on the amount of information you want to encode and whether or not you want to display the content as readable text, some layouts may work better as others.

Herma 4334 – Mini QR Separator Labels – 112 labels per A4 label sheetOnline Labels OL28 – Mini QR Separator Labels – 90 labels per Letter size label sheet

Online Labels OL28 – Mini QR Folder & File Labels – 90 labels per Letter size label sheet

Because of its efficient vertical format, ideal for QR Codes, the small OL 28 label can also be used for folder & file name information as long as the total number of characters does not exceed 62 characters.

The above bar code contains following data: “\\CB_Server\CaptureBites\Accounting\Invoices\Q1FY2013;INV-0001”
