250-040 MetaServer Tasks – Delete Old Files

With MetaServer’s Delete Old Files action, you can delete files older than the specified number of days in a certain folder. This is useful for, for example, deleting outdated backup files.

NOTE: The age of a file is determined based on its “modified” date.

In our example, we will base ourselves on the “CB – SIMPSONS” task. This task is automatically installed with CaptureBites MetaServer.

To add a Delete Old Files action, select the action after which you want to insert the Delete Old Files action and press Add -> Delete Old Files. The Setup window will automatically open.

You can also open the setup window of an existing Delete Old Files action by double-clicking the action or by pressing the setup button on the right side of the Delete Old Files action or in the ribbon, as shown below.

In our example case, we want to automatically delete back-up files older than 2 weeks (14 days) in a specified folder.

First, add a description of your action. Then, set the folder holding the files you want to delete. You can browse to the folder using the “…” button or enter the path manually. Make sure this path already exists.

01 – Delete files older than: specify the age of the file in number of days when it needs to be deleted. You can also choose to remove empty folders in the specified folder.

02 – Network Folders: The Network Folders setup makes it possible to define user credentials for shared network folders. This gives MetaServer access to modify files in these shared network folders. You can refer to the Setup help here.

TIP: you can copy the current settings and paste them in another setup window of the same type. Do this by pressing the Settings button in the bottom left of the Setup window and by selecting Copy. Then open another setup window of the same type and select Paste.
