Meet the team behind CaptureBites
CaptureBites, based in Antwerp, Belgium, was founded in 2014 by JD Moons and Jean Van Laethem. Together, they had a common goal: bring industry-leading document automation within reach of every business, from small to medium sized businesses all over the world.
CEO and co-founder JD Moons puts it simply:
“Even the smallest businesses deserve access to top-tier Intelligent Document Processing (IDP).”
That belief still drives everything the company builds today.
JD Moons, CEO and co-founder of CaptureBites. He brings 25+ years of experience in the world of scanning, document capture, and product leadership from his time at Kodak and Kofax.
Personal fact: "As a distraction, I love to walk Bo in the fields of Wommelgem. If it's past our time to walk, he notifies me by making cute growling sounds."
Jean Van Laethem, CTO and co-founder of CaptureBites. He is the technical backbone of MetaServer and a master programmer. He and JD first crossed paths at Kodak and reconnected when working for Kofax. Working on many projects together (i.a. Kofax VRS, Kofax Express, etc.), they knew that they would be able to start something from scratch together. Ever since then, they've combined forces to start their own business, CaptureBites!
Personal fact: "Si je code pas pour CaptureBites, je code pour le fun."
Philippe Moons, but you can also call him "Phil". VP of Sales & Marketing, joined in 2026 with 15+ years in sales management and digital marketing, rounding out the third "Moons" on the team.
Personal fact: "I'm a devoted dog and cats dad, a guitar lover, personal trainer, foodie and coffee lover. (Cortado for life)"
Sophie Moons, VP of Operations, Project Manager and Web Master. A wearer of many hats and works at CaptureBites since its early days, in 2017. She leads new product development, including the future MetaServer Web Server & Client, provides support, training and keeps the CaptureBites website running smoothly.
Personal fact: "I sing in a choir, love drawing and keep my desk decorated with mini figures."
Russ Coleman, Development Consultant. Russ and JD previously worked together during their Kofax days, where they built extensive expertise in Kofax VRS integration. He brings that deep technical knowledge to MetaServer and leads the integration of Microsoft Azure AI services. Russ also designed and developed MetaServer's License Manager, which manages software licensing and activation.
Personal fact: "I own a pet California Desert Tortoise."
Radoslav Radev, Software Engineer. He joined CaptureBites in 2023 and helps build additional features for MetaServer to make document processing even more effortless. He's currently the lead programmer of the future MetaServer Web Client and Access Control Manager.
Personal fact: "Outside of work, I love pulling something apart to understand how it works. This can be software, hardware, or the occasional car up on the lift."
Bo and Bono, the office's resident labradoodles. Their tasks include supervising coffee breaks and greeting every visitor with a tail wag.
Personal fact: "Woof!"
At the center of it all is MetaServer, CaptureBites' IDP platform for automated document processing and data capture.
MetaServer imports documents (email, PDF, TIF, JPG, and more) and handles the entire workflow from there. It separates document sets, extracts and formats the key data, validates results against your business rules and databases and converts files to searchable PDF. This is all configured within a MetaServer worfklow without any need for coding.
The output lands exactly where you need it, in a document management system of your choice.
