Meet Russ Coleman, our Software Engineer

At CaptureBites, the people behind MetaServer are as important as the software itself. In this edition of our Meet the Team series, we sit down with Russ Coleman, one of our Software Engineers, who leads the integration of Microsoft Azure AI services into MetaServer.
Russ brings decades of experience in document capture technology. He and CaptureBites co-founder JD worked together during their Kofax (now Tungsten) days, where they built extensive expertise in Kofax VRS integration.
"Around 2003 and 2004, JD and I worked together at Kofax. JD was product manager and owner on some projects where I was one of the lead engineers. After my position at Kofax, after 21 years there, I decided to make a go at consulting. Within a few months I reached out to JD to touch base, and we reconnected."
Today, Russ applies that deep technical knowledge to MetaServer. He also designed and developed MetaServer's License Manager, which facilitates a smooth software licensing and activation system.
"For the last several years, this has mostly been implementing new features in MetaServer where we integrate Microsoft Azure technologies for extracting data from documents. Of course, I also support issues reported by end customers when they are escalated to me."
This work is central to how MetaServer helps organizations turn documents into usable data. By combining MetaServer's capture and workflow capabilities with Azure AI document intelligence, customers can automate more of their document processing with less manual effort.
"I live in California, so the best overlap with Europe is my morning hours. I check to see if there is anything pressing first thing. If not, I may attend to personal matters until later in the day."
"I've always been impressed by the range of MetaServer's functions to pull documents from so many sources, process them in so many ways, and export them to numerous endpoints. Also, MetaServer's workflow authoring is very flexible and powerful."
That flexibility is exactly why organizations choose MetaServer for document capture and automation. Whether documents arrive by email, scanner, file share, or another source, MetaServer can process them and deliver the results to the systems teams already use.
What's something you're surprisingly good at that has absolutely nothing to do with your job?
"I have some handyman skills I could mention: electrical work and small auto maintenance items."
If your workday had a soundtrack, what song would be playing?
"California Dreamin'."
And one more fun fact: Russ is the proud owner of a pet California Desert Tortoise. Slow and steady may win the race for his tortoise, but when it comes to shipping new MetaServer features, Russ keeps things moving.
