How to back up Tungsten / Kofax Express 3.3
Once you have configured a Tungsten / Kofax Express 3.3 system, we recommend creating a back up of some critical folders and files.
Step 1: Choose a backup location. As common practice, we use the following location:
C:\CaptureBites\Backup
Step 2: Create a folder with the current date in your backup location.
For example:
C:\CaptureBites\Backup\2025-05-13_Customer_Name\
Step 3: In this backup folder, copy the following Tungsten / Kofax Express 3.3 folders and files:
Folders:
- C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Kofax Express 3.3\Jobs
- C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Kofax Express 3.3\Scanners
- C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Kofax Express Licensing
Files:
- C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Kofax Express 3.3\App.AppProfile
- ODBC Database(s) used by the jobs like Excel or Access database files
- Document samples to test the jobs
IMPORTANT: If you experience power outages in your location / region:
The typical cause of a broken Tungsten / Kofax Express 3.3 configuration, is power interruptions. The power interruption causes the computer to crash and, in the process, one or more of critical configuration files get corrupt. Worst case, the complete Windows OS gets damaged and requires a complete re-install.
If you experience power interruptions a few times per year, we highly recommend to install a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply).
A UPS serves as a power backup. It’s a box with a chargeable battery that takes over when the power is interrupted and supplies power to the computer for 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of battery. This gives you plenty of time to gracefully shut down the PC until the main power is restored and avoids any damage to your operating system or the Tungsten / Kofax Express 3.3 configuration files.
They are very simple to install. The UPS is plugged in the main power and the computer (and other devices) are plugged in the UPS.
