MetaServer > Help > FAQ > No preview thumbnails of PDF files

I can’t see preview thumbnails of my PDF files in Windows File Explorer or MetaServer’s Go To window

If you don’t have a PDF reader installed on your computer, you won’t be able to see preview thumbnails of PDF files in your Windows File Explorer. The same counts for the MetaServer client’s Go To window. This also occurs if you have Acrobat Reader DC as your default PDF viewer. It will only show PDF logos as the thumbnail in the Windows File Explorer.

No thumbnails without a PDF viewer

No thumbnails with Acrobat Reader DC

No thumbnails with Acrobat Reader DC or without a PDF viewer

Solution:

We recommend installing the free PDF-XChange Editor. After installation, restart your computer and your PDF files will have preview thumbnails.

Important: On a 64 bit Windows, please make sure to install the 64 bit version of the PDF-XChange Editor. If you install the 32 bit version, the thumbnails will not display.
